Choose the boy toy

…when getting a McDonald’s Happy Meal. They’re always way cooler than the girl toys. As a former employee, I know this to be a fact. The boy toys usually require assembly and have movable parts, whereas the girl toys are often already-assembled dolls of some sort that aren’t good for much other than staring at (which is fine if you like to stare, except that staring is annoying so you should probably work on this.). Sometimes they’ll have unisex toys and those are pretty neat but my advice is to opt for the boy toy when asked, just as a general rule.

Oh, and I shouldn’t leave out the toddler toys for those munchkins who are under 3 (either in age or maturity). From time to time they’ll have a great promotional toy event and you can get a rad stuffed animal in your toddler happy meal – but you have to know to ask for it. Knowledge, people: It’s a verb*. Do it.

*No it isn’t.

Spring is here and it’s beautiful. The lovely Dogwood trees in the yard have finally bloomed and I could sit outside and stare at them all day long.

In other news, my sister-in-law found out on Easter that she’s pregnant! She and her husband are very excited and I’m excited for them. I’m also looking forward to being an aunt again. Babies and Springtime – life is good :]

An obsession that has run its course

I realize most people probably see nothing special about this coffee cup. I, on the other hand, see a coffee cup that is unequaled in its perfection. I first came upon it several years ago when I went to Another Broken Egg Café while vacationing in Florida. It is beautifully made and perfectly shaped. I noticed that all around the café there were coffee cups displayed in various colors and, getting the impression I could buy one, I asked the waitress how much they were. Her response: “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” What?! Turns out she was right. They’re $20 a piece!! She said it’s because they are handmade by someone locally. But I suspect it’s mostly because their clientele is predominantly retirees and wealthy vacationers unlike myself.

Needless to say, I didn’t buy one. Yet, I found myself regularly regretting my choice for years to come. Even though I know it’s unreasonable to spend that much on a coffee cup, I just couldn’t help myself. I really wanted one. After years of pining, Jordan finally said, “If we ever go back there, we’re just going to buy one. It’s $20 so consider it your souvenir.” Yessss.

Well, we did return to Florida a few weeks ago and revisited this café. Confronted with the reality that this was my chance to buy the cup I’d been wanting so badly, I spent brunch wrestling with whether or not I could stomach the price tag (instead of enjoying the company of my lovely companion. shame shame). I was paralyzed by indecision.

In the end I just couldn’t do it.

I’m nuts, right?

Now that I’m back from vacationing in Florida, my blogging hiatus is over! I’ll be posting some pictures throughout the week that I took on vacation.

A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready to go on a walk. As I opened the back door to leave, this kind little creature greeted me and attempted to enter my residence. Unfortunately, I had to turn him or her away. Luckily, I just so happened to have the camera sitting on the counter right next to the door so I could snap a picture quickly. It had the cutest meow that sounded more like mreow. As you can see, this picture was taken mid-mreow. I think my neighbor leaves out cat food for it so hopefully we’ll meet up again.
